The renewal of 460 Bourke Street creates a new face and
identity to an old address.
The facade ‘slips’ off the building to crumble and form
a canopy that ‘crashes’ into the building interior like a breaking wave on a beach. A light, bright and airy gallery space forms the public foyer and entrance to the building.
Coloured lighting simulates the daily activities of a 24/7 city,
the whiteness of the day’s commercial activity merges into the hot red night as if the building were to ‘dress up’ and market to the city’s night activities.
Social sustainability upgrades include en-suite shower change rooms to support bicycle parking and exercise.
Energy, water saving and Indoor Environmental Quality
initiatives feature highly on ESD upgrades.
