Following a previous renovation undertaken by Gray Puksand to their existing Spanish Mission style bungalow, an expanding family required provision of a series of new family oriented spaces, and areas for informal socialising and sleeping.

The addition of a series of simple, modern pavilion style areas to the existing home transformed the original internal spaces, with a dramatic glazed elliptical shaped family room providing a focal gathering place for the family. Extensive use of western red cedar cladding, glazing and simple exposed galvanised steel framing provide a modern contrast to the materials of the earlier residence.

Good levels of internal natural daylight and strategic placement of windows provides framed views of new garden areas. Use of reverse masonry veneer was utilised to thermally insulate the sleeping quarters, whilst the benefits of an in slab heating system are maximised with minimal use of applied floor coverings.
