Point Cook Prep to Year 9 College is one
of the 11 Schools being provided by the DEECD within the framework of the first education Public Private Partnerships (PPP) in Victoria.
The first challenge presented by the PPP project was the lack of urban context surrounding each of the project sites. Typically, the project sites’ urban context encompasses imminent or recent
development of ’greenfield’ areas with a new urban fabric, defined by residential dwellings in relatively featureless and flat terrain. The importance of ’school building‘ in this context is therefore magnified. The focus of the design process was to integrate the built forms with the natural and urban landscape to create a precinct that encourages links and interaction between the school and community facilities. Through the design and\ orientation of buildings which address the site’s community interaction opportunities and the creation of an obvious point of\ entry, Point Cook P-9 invites and welcomes the local community.
