The new Technical Education Centre at University of Ballarat (UBTec) is an education facility providing focused learning pathways with a technical emphasis for 16-20 year olds. The centre enables hands-on learning programs which will distil industry specific skills, work-related skills, literacy, numeracy and personal development relevant to life and work.
The architecture, manifesting itself from the iconic bar code, responds to the technical and digital world. Maximising passive methodology, energy efficiencies and spatial
synergies with the adjacent Manufacturing Technical Training Centre, the building creates an innovative learning environment which is flexible, communal and socially responsible to match the aspiration of generating skilled mature young adults for the ‘real’ world.
The proposed UBTec will form a new trade training precinct for the University of Ballarat’s SMB Campus, alongside the new Manufacturing Technical Training Centre and the recently completed Building Construction Training Centre. Together they will revitalise the White Flats precinct, to create a new civic presence within the urban fabric of the University’s campus and the City of Ballarat.
