31 Queen Street’s highly modelled foyer strikes a balance with bold symmetry.

Committed to their portfolio enhancement strategy, Challenger Diversified Property Group requested a major refresh of the façade at 31 Queen Street Melbourne and an extensive upgrade of the common areas and amenities. Gray Puksand’s enduring design carries through from the rejuvenated façade and sculptural canopy into the ground floor foyer. The canopy was designed in association with artist Dan Templeman and provides a new presence at street level.

Its forms and colour complement the purity and abstraction of form at the illuminated core walls which add a three dimensional layer to what is typically a flat plane. Monumental forms of folded Corian and illuminated perforated panels strike a consistent rhythm as they wrap around the core from Queens Street and face outward to Flinders Lane where they command attention from the street.

The result is an asset that has proven its commercial viability since completion and is a bright landmark at the southern edge of the CBD grid.
