Encouraging the sharing of knowledge by bringing the legal community together across multiple levels.

In January 2019 the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) occupied their new workspace on levels 12 and 13 of the iconic 140 William Street.

Level 13 brought together a legal bookstore, members library and lounge with dedicated learning and training spaces, all connected by a generous concierge reception lobby.

Level 12 provides LIV with an unprecedented workspace with incredible natural daylight and views. Staff arrive into a beautiful open kitchen breakout space.

Having previously worked in a predominately enclosed office work setting, Gray Puksand’s design enables the teams at LIV to explore the benefits of a supported open-plan workspace.

Individual workspaces are surrounded by centralised meeting rooms, quiet rooms and booths. Focused technical work requiring confidentiality and privacy is supported with dedicated spaces for collaboration and retreat.

The design is a celebration of the role LIV has, both in the legal community and by knowledge sharing. The design language is inspired by the ways we all communicate through language, art and music.

These can be seen in the thin black linear elements that speak to the written words, through to the bold colour and textures that evoke the experience of art, with repeated textures reminiscent of a musical rhythm.

The project was delivered as a construction management collaboration within 6 months from inception to completion.
