The current stage is being set for Parramatta to become Sydney’s ‘second CBD’ with anticipation building around private investment in commercial and residential buildings within the thriving region.

Hunter Street Private Hospital and Medi-Hotel is located on a prominent corner site in Parramatta, where Hunter and Marsden Streets meet, to the immediate west of the Parramatta Square Precinct and St John’s Anglican Cathedral. The proposed 23-storey tower will accommodate the 150-bed hospital on the lower floors and 90-room five-star hotel on the top floors. It’s a non-traditional integrated model of mixed use development, with the five-star offering catering for regular hotel guests, as well as pre- and post-operative patients and their families from the private hospital.

Gray Puksand’s design creates a refined architectural addition to the region’s evolving skyline, while supporting a pedestrian-focused urban realm with a new forecourt at the hotel’s Hunter Street entry.

The tower’s strongly vertical expression is highlighted by glazing fins that visually unify the structure, and internally, hospital and hotel zones are clearly demarcated, although all are characterised by elegant, crisp schemes.

The hospital, with its entrance situated on Marsden Street, is a well-considered study in functionality, incorporating hospital beds with associated operating theatre suites, a day surgery unit and pre-admission medical clinic. Its emphasis is on holistic healthcare, with a focus on recovery and wellness, and the interior design supports this vision through material and colour palettes that are relaxed and calming.

Gray Puksand’s human-centric approach extends through to the hotel, where a high provision of accessible rooms and the inclusion of large adaptable suites makes it as welcoming as it is stylish. It also includes wellness spaces and food and beverage offerings, which are not typical in a standard hotel. These services and facilities are intended to support the hospital and people who use it, ensuring the hotel’s patients, alongside regular guests, are prioritised. Generously sized back-of-house areas feature in both the hotel and hospital to provide all staff with the space needed to keep front-of-house areas running smoothly.

Over the next five years, billions of infrastructure investments will accelerate the economy in the form of WestConnex, Parramatta Light Rail, the Westmead precinct, the Museum of Applied Arts and Science, and the Western Sydney Stadium, amongst others.

Gray Puksand is at the forefront of shaping Parramatta’s growing skyline with a new innovative typology, the Hunter Street Private Hospital, with a luxurious five-star hotel at the summit.
