Gray Puksand’s and Auto & General’s long standing working relationship has seen the delivery of a number of design projects including the company’s Toowong Tower headquarters and call centres at North Lakes and Birtinya.  Auto and General is a specialist in the sale, management and underwriting of insurance products.

The brief for a funky staff break out space at Auto and General’s Toowong head office inspired the design of an ‘urban hangout’ that delivered much more than a space for staff to refuel.

With a number of employees lunching off-site at the nearby Toowong Village shopping centre food court, the challenge was to create a truly inviting space that encouraged staff to stay, relax and recharge.

Thoughtful design delivered a variety of settings within the space, offering a variety of opportunities for staff to connect, collaborate or simply enjoy a quiet moment in the midst of a busy day.

Using materials inspired by the urban Brisbane environment including concrete, timber and greenery, the team created a warm and welcoming space that has been embraced by Auto and General staff.

Careful consideration was given to the acoustic design of the space to ensure minimal impact on the neighbouring work areas through acoustic devices such as timber battens.

In addition, the purpose designed banquette seating offers a popular informal meeting space that helps alleviate demand on meeting rooms.

Gray Puksand’s ‘urban hangout’ has delivered more than a funky space for Auto and General staff to enjoy. The additional opportunities to connect and collaborate that have been created through the space’s considered design play an important role in reinforcing the company’s strong corporate culture.
