Gray Puksand expands into Residential Living sector

Gray Puksand launches a dedicated Residential Living sector, appointing Senior Associate Luke Stokes to lead and strengthen national housing solutions.

Gray Puksand has expanded our Living portfolio with the creation of a dedicated Residential Living sector, reinforcing our commitment to addressing Australia’s urgent housing needs.

As affordability, sustainability and diversity of supply come under increasing pressure, Gray Puksand sees an opportunity to bring extensive cross-sector expertise into residential design. Building on our award-winning track record across education, workplace, commercial and healthcare, the new sector will focus on housing that is commercially viable, resilient and people-centred.

Luke Stokes has been appointed as Senior Associate to spearhead the expansion of Residential Living as a dedicated focus within the practice.

Bringing more than a decade of experience across residential, workplace, retail and hospitality projects, Luke has developed a specialisation in multi-residential design through his work at SJB and Breathe. His expertise strengthens our ability to partner with both new and existing clients on a broad spectrum of residential projects, while also assisting those looking to reposition and adapt existing assets into housing that better serves today’s demands.

“Housing today must consider lifestyle, community, and the sense of belonging people find in the places they live. Architects must move beyond thinking of ourselves as aesthetic gatekeepers and embrace the role of advocate and problem solver,” said Luke.

“Gray Puksand’s legacy across education, workplace, commercial and healthcare projects forms a strong foundation for Residential Living. It allows us to bring proven ideas about flexibility, wellbeing and placemaking into housing, and in doing so, create outcomes that are lasting, sustainable and valuable to the communities they serve.”

The Residential Living portfolio will include build-to-rent and build-to-sell developments, student accommodation, affordable and social housing, lifestyle-led residential within mixed-use precincts, and essential services accommodation such as co-living and key worker accommodation. This dedicated focus complements our long-standing leadership in Senior Living, led nationally by Senior Associate Pragya Gupta.

Gray Puksand’s innovative approach to Living has been recognised nationally, demonstrated through Greenway Views Seniors’ Living Village in Canberra. The adaptive reuse project transformed eight former government buildings into a new community, with design strategies that support ageing in place, encourage social interaction and promote wellbeing.

“Expanding into Residential Living is a natural progression for our practice and a timely response to a national priority,” said Nik Tabain, National Managing Partner.

“Alongside our established strength in Senior Living under Pragya’s leadership, Luke’s appointment ensures we are contributing meaningfully to housing solutions that improve how people live at every stage of life. Our role is to collaborate with clients, governments and communities to deliver housing that is practical, resilient and genuinely people-centred.”
