Upgrades to their specialist and practical teaching spaces for Learning Commons, Chocolateria and Gelateria.

In 2020, GP was engaged to undertake a series of upgrades and refurbishment of various areas across William Angliss Institute Campus in Melbourne.

Our design response for the upgrades to their specialist and practical teaching spaces for chocolateria, cake decoration and gelateria takes cues from the softer forms and shapes associated with both chocolate and gelato.

Through our briefing and stakeholder engagement process, it was clear that these spaces needed to provide a contemporary and refined backdrop to showcase the students work and at the same time support and enable collaboration across various teaching and learning modes.

Rigorous planning ensued the integration of various opportunities for group learning, gathering and exchange between the practical and theory spaces across an axial circulation spine. The materials palette was carefully selected to imbue a sense of lightness, openness and sophistication to counterpoint the use of full height glazing where possible throughout.

The resulting new Learning Commons environment presents itself as a cohesive and connected space that promotes a sense of agency, creativity and curiosity to both students and staff and aims to align the Institute’s brand with current and future trends in hospitality training.
