Gray Puksand was engaged to provide Architectural and Principal Consultant services for the Renewing Our Schools Program for four schools in the South East QLD in early 2019.

A brief was developed with close and rigorous design testing and consultation with the school stakeholders to determine that the most appropriate usage of the funding was to provide a multi-level contemporary resource centre. This was to create a new central heart of Corinda State High School campus that includes contemporary statement spaces that identify the school as a modern education environment.

The Resource Centre consolidates existing underutilised assets to create a flexible, adaptable hub that responds to and fosters contemporary learning outcomes. An environment that enables teachers and students to explore and collaborate, while enabling inquiry through problem-based learning and creativity. Movement through the building is facilitated through multiple methods. Bleachers create opportunities to pause, gather and learn.

Semi-external feature stairs at the centre of the building create visual connections through the volume, allowing supervision across floors. A central elevator provides accessible provisions to the centre of the new building. The design of the new Resource Centre contains flexible spaces (research and classes) to encourage collaboration and group learning.

The spaces include opportunities for students to foster ownership of their space and encourage the student cohort to interact with staff.

Additionally, as the heart of the campus, the Resource Centre allows community connection to the centre of the site, creating a welcoming central environment for visitors.
